In celebration of the official opening of Judo and Wrestling School Jasaan, we organized a judo event on January 20, 2007.

In the morning there was a small judo clinic for the young judoka's. Here the judoka's from Iligan and Jasaan could meet each other and practice together. Sensei Ron showed some simple techniques and with a lot of effort everybody played and had fun with each other. At the end of the morning the basic rules and procedures during the tournament were explained to judoka's and the spectators.

After the clinics there was lunch. Cooked by Master cook Marla.

Then at about 2 o'clock we started with the official opening. With the National Anthem, prayer and speeches. Because not all the guests were on time we had to shift a little with the demo program. The openings remarks from Ron were illustrated by his small group of judoka's (without judo suit) and before the remarks from Sensei Joe Aluyen (7th Dan) , regional president from the Philippine Amateur Judo Association Ron and his friend Jef demonstrated Submission Wrestling.

After the remarks from Sensei Joe there was the demo from the judokids from Jasaan only now with judo suit. With glancing eyes, from Sensei's Ed (PAJA, 5th Dan) and Cesar Sensei Joe removed the Dutch and Pilipino Flags and the JWSJ Lion Logo became visible. To finalize the official opening there was one more demonstration. Again Ron and Jef, now in judo-gi, they showed some judo solutions for self defense situations.

A little late we could start with the tournament, but to avoid a late return to Iligan, only the younger judoka's could play in the tournament.

I could tell a lot about the fights. They were compassionate, with too much noise from spectators, but lovely to watch. Really everybody gave what they had inside. There are not many tournaments but this was one to remember. In the end even Sensei Ed and Joe were impressed and almost decided to promote everybody. Luckily they changed their mind and only the first prize winners were promoted, but under condition that they still have to do their examination. (The rule here is that they can keep / use their judo suit when they are promoted. Now they can keep their suit, but get their yellow belt only after the exam.)

With the line-up was there the sound of "We Are the Champions" and I have to say: there was a tear in my eye. I was happy, my dream , my Judo School is open, I had a wonderful day, with a small, but great tournament and I was proud of my judoka's !

I had again this wonderful feeling like after a lot of judo weekends in Holland ( what my friends in Holland can understand ): you feel tiered, but so happy, because it is finished, over, and everybody enjoyed themselves, everybody is happy,  and everybody thanks you for organizing that event.

And last but not least: We, all my judoka's, our guests and judoka's from Iligan, my friend Jef, we made such an impressive good promotion for judo. In short the day was a succes.

Only now was the tournament inside where the place is not ideal for such an event. Maybe / hopefully we can organize it next year at the plaza. Then it will not only be an outstanding promotion, but also really a lot of guests and people will be able to see it.
